Smoking Cessation

Healthy Home
ZuriWorks worked Breath DC, an organization devoted to creating smoke-free living and working environments. We worked with tenants, property managers and owners to create smoke-free communities in the District of Columbia. The program equips property owners and managers with tools to engage tenants on the benefits of smoke-free housing, offers cessation classes for tenants, and hands-on-educational healthy lifestyle workshops for tenants who want to improve and protect their health. The project worked with eight property owners to create smoke-free housing for 2,500 tenants.

Teens Who Don’t (DC Tobacco Youth Coalition)
The ZuriWorks team worked with Teens Who Don’t, a leadership training program dedicated to cultivating leaders in public health, policy, and urban development. We trained students in various aspects of production – concept development, scripting writing, and filming – to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for DC Calls it Quits Day. The PSA was shown in local area schools and reached over 5,000 DC students and residents.

East of the River Tobacco Free Project
The project works to reduce smoking among pregnant mothers and households with children in wards 7 & 8. The wards have the highest rates of smoking in the District. Working with the District’s Managed Care Organizations, United Medical Patients, DC Primary Care Association, faith-based organizations, local college and universities, and community health partners the project reached 10,000 residents. We provided over 1,000 residents with cessation with cessation support, including text messaging, and connection to supportive services to sustain smoke-free lifestyle.

LGBT Smoking Cessation Community Support
The ZuriWorks team provided 960 hours of technical assistance to 13 local organizations providing smoking cessation services to the District’s LGBT community. We enabled organizations to support 500 teens to stop smoking.
